A Hamas senior official has invited Elon Musk to visit the Palestinian Gaza Strip to witness the destruction caused by Israeli bombardment. The official, Osama Hamdan, made the invitation during a press conference in Beirut, urging Musk to see the “extent of the massacres and destruction” in Gaza.
Hamdan’s invitation comes after Elon Musk, who owns the X social media platform, visited the site of the Hamas assault on Israel. Musk denounced hatred and pledged to take action against it, despite facing criticism for endorsing an anti-Jewish post on social media.
A temporary truce
The invitation to Musk follows a temporary truce between Israel and Hamas that has been extended for an additional 48 hours. Hamdan highlighted the devastation caused by Israel in Gaza and called on the international community to send specialized civil defense teams to help retrieve bodies trapped under the rubble. He also urged US President Biden to review the US relationship with Israel and stop supplying them with weapons.
Since the conflict began on October 7th, Israel has dropped more than 40,000 tonnes of explosives on Gaza, leading to the deaths of thousands of Palestinians and the displacement of hundreds of thousands. Hamdan appealed for urgent assistance to retrieve bodies and provide aid to the affected population.
The truce agreed last week was the first halt in fighting in the seven weeks since Hamas attacked Israel, leading to significant casualties on both sides. The situation remains tense, with the international community closely monitoring developments in the region.
