Houthis Remain Committed to Red Sea Attacks Despite US-led Strikes

The Houthi’s chief negotiator reaffirmed the group’s position following US-led airstrikes on their positions. He warned that attacks on ships heading to Israel would continue. This came as a response to Israel’s offensive in Gaza. The group is demanding an end to the war in Gaza and humanitarian aid for the region. They emphasized that their actions are driven by religious, moral and humanitarian principles, and in response to the calls of the people of Palestine. The US military reported shooting down an anti-ship cruise missile fired by the Houthis towards the USS Laboon in the southern Red Sea. The UN Security Council condemned the attacks on Red Sea ships and implicitly endorsed a US-led task force defending vessels while cautioning against escalating tensions.
