Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, revealed that throughout Israel’s ongoing war against Hamas in Gaza, both Iran and the United States have been exchanging messages. The U.S. reportedly asked Iran to urge Hezbollah, a Lebanese armed group backed by Iran, to refrain from deeply involving itself in the conflict against Israel. Hezbollah has been engaging in frequent clashes with the Israeli military along the Lebanese-Israeli border in support of Hamas. Amirabdollahian also warned against any escalation of the war, stating that it would mark the end of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership. Iran emphasized the need for a political solution to end the war, and is reportedly in discussions with Saudi Arabia on this matter. Additionally, the Foreign Minister met with several Lebanese officials and Hezbollah’s leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah to discuss the situation in Gaza and southern Lebanon. Amirabdollahian is also set to visit Syria, where Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps have suffered losses due to Israeli strikes.
