Iran’s President to Attend a Summit in Saudi Arabia
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is set to visit Saudi Arabia for the first time since the two countries ended their years of hostility in March. Raisi will attend the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Riyadh, where the issue of Palestine will be discussed. The visit comes as the Israel-Hamas conflict continues to escalate, with world and regional powers failing to reach a consensus on how to address the situation. Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to resume ties in March under a deal negotiated by China, putting an end to seven years of hostility that had threatened stability and security in the Gulf and fueled conflicts in the Middle East.
