Palestinian Liberation Organization in Panic as UN Secretary General Urges Reversal of UNRWA Funding Cuts

The office of Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) Secretary-General Hussein al-Sheikh has urged countries to reconsider their decisions to pull funding from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Al-Sheikh warned of significant political and humanitarian consequences if support for the agency is withdrawn. This comes after UNRWA workers were terminated for their involvement in the October 7 Massacre, prompting the United States and Italy to halt funding for UNRWA. Additionally, the lower house of the Swiss Parliament voted to suspend funding for UNRWA due to alleged internal corruption involving former UNRWA commissioner Pierre Krähenbühl. However, the decision was not approved by the Swiss upper house. Switzerland and the United States are among the top funders of UNRWA.
