Palestinians Stand Firm Against Israel’s Partial Tax Transfer

The Palestinian Authority rejects Israel’s partial transfer of tax revenues, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said. Shtayyeh hopes international pressure will speed up the transfer of funds collected by Israel in the West Bank. The Palestinian Authority covers expenses in Gaza, including salaries and other costs. Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has held up the transfers due to his refusal to release the full package of funds. Smotrich accused the Palestinian Authority of supporting a Hamas attack and has only agreed to a partial transfer of funds. Palestinian officials stress the crucial need for the funds to be released in full, while tension within the Israeli government has also arisen over the issue. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant called for immediate disbursement of the funds to maintain stability in the volatile West Bank.
