Mohammad Qobadlou, who participated in the Woman, Life, Freedom protests in Iran after the killing of Mahsa Amini, is at risk of being executed by the regime. Qobadlou was sentenced to death in late 2022 for killing a police officer and “corruption on earth.” The Iranian Supreme Court overturned Qobadlou’s death sentence, but his lawyer received notice that the execution was going to be carried out regardless. The protests after Amini’s death drew attention worldwide, with intense nationwide demonstrations sweeping Iran. The protests were referred to as the “Woman, Life, Liberty” protests and were the strongest and most serious demonstrations in the regime’s history, according to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander-in-chief, Hossein Salami.
