Unrest in the Middle East: Israel and Hezbollah Clash in Lebanon

A senior commander in Hezbollah’s Radwan Forces, his deputy commander, and an additional terrorist operative were killed in an airstrike on February 14, according to the IDF. The strike in Lebanon followed rocket fire from Lebanon that struck Safed, killing an IDF soldier and wounding eight others. The IDF claimed the man who was hit with the airstrike directed the terrorist attack at the Megiddo Junction in Israel in March 2023. Israel had previously downplayed Hezbollah threats, preferring incremental and proportional responses. Despite recent losses, Hezbollah continues to dictate the tempo of operations. The deadly dance with Hezbollah has become a dangerous chess game, and the situation in the Middle East has been largely drawn by Iran and its proxies and partners.
