Yemeni military official in Egypt killed, Houthis held responsible

The Yemeni Embassy in Cairo confirmed on Sunday that General Hassan bin Jalal Al-Obaidi, a senior official responsible for manufacturing for the Yemeni government’s military, was found dead in his apartment in Cairo. He was reportedly bound and stabbed, although Egyptian and Yemeni authorities have not confirmed these reports. General Al-Obaidi was involved in the development of armored vehicles and other military products for the Yemeni army. It is believed that the Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who oppose the internationally recognized Yemeni government, are responsible for his death. An advisor to the Yemeni information minister has accused the Houthis of attempting to assassinate General Al-Obaidi multiple times before succeeding. An investigation into the incident has been opened by Egyptian security services.
